Before you join

What is the difference between ONZ and OCNZ?

The Osteopathic Council of New Zealand (OCNZ) is the regulator. It registers osteopaths, sets standards and protects the public, and registration is compulsory to practise. Osteopaths New Zealand (ONZ) is the professional association. Membership is voluntary, and we represent, support and connect osteopaths.

When does membership renew, and how do I pay?

Membership renews on 1 April each year. We send you an invoice, and you can pay by internet banking, by credit card or in instalments.

Is membership tax deductible?

Professional association fees are usually a deductible business expense for practising osteopaths. Check with your accountant.

Can I stay a member if I stop practising or move overseas?

Yes. Non-practising membership keeps you connected. If you are stepping away from practice, consider changing your OCNZ practising certificate to non-practising rather than deregistering, so you can return more easily.

Can non-practising members use the group insurance?

The group policy is designed for practising osteopaths, but Affiliated Insurance will review non-practising members individually. Contact James Shearing on 027 246 0046 or james@affiliated.nz.

I am a student. What do I get?

Free membership while you study, then half-price membership for your first two years of registration. You also get access to events, peer groups and our graduate toolkit when you qualify.
