This page brings together the key information relating to ONZ’s transition to an executive leadership model, including the Board’s decision, the recruitment process, the transition timeline, frequently asked questions and what members can expect over the coming weeks.
Over recent months, the Board has been considering how Osteopaths New Zealand can best support the profession as the Association continues to grow in its advocacy, professional representation, education, research, partnerships and member services.
Throughout this process, the Board’s objective has been to ensure that any change to ONZ’s operating model strengthens the Association’s ability to deliver for members, while maintaining the governance principles that underpin the organisation.
Following strategic planning, member engagement and the completion of a formal recruitment process, the Board has confirmed ONZ’s transition to an executive leadership model through the establishment of its first Chief Executive Officer position.
As ONZ has continued to evolve, the Board has considered how best to support the Association’s future development while maintaining a clear distinction between governance and operations. The move to an executive leadership model is intended to provide dedicated operational leadership while enabling the Board to focus on governance, strategy and stewardship.
The Board is confident this model will strengthen the Association’s operational capacity and support its ability to serve members and the profession into the future.
Before making its final decision, the Board invited members to attend an online information session to explain the proposed operating model, outline the rationale for change and answer questions.
The Board thanks all members who participated in that session and carefully considered the feedback received before proceeding further.
Following member engagement, the Chief Executive Officer position was advertised. Expressions of interest were received, formal applications were invited, shortlisted candidates were interviewed and a preferred candidate was identified.
At its meeting on Friday 24 July 2026, the Board formally resolved to appoint Angela Young as ONZ’s inaugural Chief Executive Officer, subject to final contractual arrangements. Angela is expected to commence on 31 August 2026.
To maintain a clear separation between governance and executive management, Angela stepped down as Chair immediately following the Board’s resolution to appoint the Chief Executive Officer.
Morgan Hancock has been appointed Interim Chair to provide governance leadership during the transition period.
As part of implementing the new operating model, the Board has commenced the transition from the current management services arrangement with ONZL.
The Board sincerely acknowledges and thanks ONZL for the professionalism, expertise and commitment they have provided to ONZ over many years through their management, administration and secretariat services. The Board is committed to working collaboratively with ONZL throughout the transition period to ensure continuity of services and a smooth handover.
For members, services will continue as normal throughout the transition period. ONZ’s advocacy, education, research, professional development, events and member services will continue uninterrupted.
The transition to the new operating model will occur over the coming weeks. This period is designed to ensure continuity of services, enable a structured handover of operational responsibilities and allow time to establish the new executive arrangements before the Chief Executive Officer commences on 31 August 2026.
